| As with the furniture and bedding in Juniper Cottage, the food we can provide is produced locally. Your complimentary hamper will include farm-fresh milk, bread, butter, cheese, honey and other local organic produce. We can also supply locally-reared meat and wines such as Hungarian Tokaj and Kékfrankos.
Local goat herders produce some fantastic cheeses, and game such as wild boar and venison are available in season. Just over the border in Slovakia you can sample the national dish halusky, made with sheep cheese. Then there are Hungarian classics such as stuffed paprika and goulash. Fruit and vegetables, grown locally, are in plentiful supply.
The wines such as Tokaj and Bikavér are full-bodied and have gained a favourable reputation across Europe. “The veggies were fabulous and far more than we could eat.” Barbara and David Forbes, Birmingham UK, August 2006

| Clockwise from top: Grilled and smoked pike-perch are caught and sold on the banks of the Danube; up with the sun in winter, Jáni bácsi butchers the pigs from an organic farm; freshly baked cakes and coffee are a Hungarian speciality to be enjoyed at any time of the day; paprika, used to season many dishes, is hung out to dry in the sun |
